Spring 2002 - News in Psychic Counseling

FIRST THE BODY, THEN THE MIND, THEN THE SPIRIT.

I know I harp on this topic, but I keep being reminded how important it is.  I have recently been reminded by my coaching clients when I realized that nearly every one of them has as a major focus, a body issue.  When we get fully involved in the coaching process, it becomes apparent with all clients that the most difficult issue they face is the body one.  I marvel at how people take charge of their careers and make bold and dramatic changes.  Others wrestle with relationships and find a way to get what they want.  But this body thing is for many the most difficult to address.

It's not for lack of knowing what they want, either.  Each person knows vividly what they want for their body.  Some want to lose weight, others to gain.  Some face addictions and recovery.  Others want to be more fit and strong.  The difficulty is in sticking to the path they have chosen to get the body they want.  The common problem seems to be this internal battle that begins to rage.  There is an 'unseen hand' that keeps people from attaining what they most want in their body.  Many of us treat our family and pets with more care than we treat our own body.  We would not dream of allowing our child to do some of the things we allow ourselves to do.  We would 'put our foot down' and set standards and demand this and that of our children, yet allow ourselves to run rampant with our bodies.

I believe the central problem for all these differing body problems is the conflict between our conscious picture we want for the body and the subconscious pictures stuck in our mind.  The pictures are in conflict and contrast.  And when there is a conflict with the subconscious, the subconscious ALWAYS wins. Key 8

Take a look at the Strength card, which is a pictorial representation of the solution.

This card is called “Gentle, mental control.”  The wild lion represents our animal appetite or out of control nature.  The woman represents the feminine part of our subconscious.  Our gentle mental side.  Notice that she brings the wild beast under control NOT by trying to muscle it to the ground, which would only provoke it to rage, but by gentle loving and delicate control or manipulation.

Sorry to mix metaphors here, but if you follow the Huna theory and imagine your subconscious as a child, we get a different viewpoint of the issue.  And as my coaching client Brian M. brilliantly pointed out, that child-like part of us does not understand time.  This is a crucial issue in this whole problem and it has negative and positive sides to it.

The bad news:  The subconscious mind sees everything as a present reality.  That horrible thing that happened to you in 1955 is FELT by the subconscious as though it is happening now.  Or because you were overweight as a child, or Mom said you weren't athletic, you live now as though it's still true.  We often make foolish decisions based on an experience that is dead and gone.  Or we live in terror based on what MIGHT happen in the future because the subconscious is experiencing it as though it is happening in the present reality.

The good news: The subconscious mind sees everything as a present reality!  What seems to work against us can in fact work for us.  Because the subconscious does not understand time, that future picture we have of our body, for example, is seen by the subconscious as a present reality.  It doesn't know the difference, and we can use that to our advantage.  We 'act as if' it were true because at one level it is true.

The process used to convince the subconscious is always pictures.  The subconscious ONLY responds to pictures, not to words and lectures.  There is a reason the ancient Tarot is in picture form, and that is it.  So what we have to do to move into a new reality begins with a new picture CONSCIOUSLY CHOSEN by you, not put there by past experiences and pains.  And this picture has to be a MORE COMPELLING PICTURE than the one you're trying to override.

So, if the problem is:  how to stay on course with body programs.

Then the solution is:  have a juicy, compelling picture of the end result of the program, AND work with the body in a gentle and loving way.  God help us…  get out the air-sick bag…  the bottom line is LOVE IS THE ANSWER.  Gently and lovingly taking control of that animal that is you and directing it to a preselected picture will bring you where you want to be.

(If you want more help on that process, I suggest you visit the HUNA section at my website that has specific techniques for visualizing.  If in that process you need help in overcoming the objections handed you by your own subconscious, feel free to e-mail me for help that I can give you online.)
